Savage weather tougher to overcome than competitors at the 2024 Mull Rally.

It’s known as the Rally of the Brave, with the majority of high-speed action skewing across Mull’s rugged roads in pitch darkness.

It’s known as the Rally of the Brave, with the majority of high-speed action skewing across Mull’s rugged roads in pitch darkness. This year, even visibility during the day was diminished by some of the most horrendous conditions in the rally’s history.

No coincidence then that a large percentage of podium places over the past 55 years have gone to drivers raised on these roads. Tobermory man Paul MacKinnon took his 5th victory, in a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5, over Dan Harper’s Mini JCS SRC and previous winner, also from Mull, Fergus Barlow’s Ford Fiesta Rally 2.

John McCrone provided drama by taking an impressive 30 second lead, but a puncture to his new S2400 Fiesta cost him precious minutes, and the following decision to throw caution to the wind resulted in a roll off the road and out of the race.

The Paddock Co joins drivers, marshalls and spectactors alike in congratulating Clerk of the Course Richard Crozier who gave the gruelling 139-mile route back its heritage by including Ross of Mull in the south, making once again ‘a whole island event.’ No coincidence then that the prestigious pre-rally event, the Tunnocks Teacake Eating Contest, was won by none other than Richard Crozier himself.
