The 12Cilindri’s sleek front-end contours are a nod to the to the 365 Daytona, whilst the sculptural rear, with its active aero, smacks of a stealth bomber. Couple that with the 812 Competitzione’s 6.5-litre V12 taking you from 0-62 in 2.9 seconds, it results in much the same sort of experience after take-off.

The dual zoned cockpit is reminiscent of the Roma and Purosangue. The passenger is promoted to co-driver, within reach of the main controls via a shared touchscreen and centre console display. Comfort is key – premium leather, luxury trims and a large, tinted glass roof melding into the windscreen, are all designed for ultimate relaxation, even at 211mph.

Beneath the clam shell bonnet lies a naturally aspirated purely petrol-powered pearl. It’s genius that a power output of 830 PS (610 kW; 819 hp) at 9,250 rpm and 678 N⋅m (500 lbf⋅ft) of torque at 7,250 rpm complies with Euro 6e’s clean transportation regulations. Perhaps that explains why the car is called after the engine itself.
